Exercise for the Cocaine Addict

Cocaine withdrawal can leave a guest depressed and anxious

Cocaine withdrawal can leave a guest depressed and anxious

The cocaine problem can be huge and mostly undetected until an addict’s life becomes ruined financially and physically. Guests who are cocaine addicts very often do not fit the image of a drug addict at all. They are often successful, highly paid and respected professional people. Cocaine addiction is characterized by cycles of recovery and relapse. Stress and negative emotions, usually caused by withdrawal itself is the primary cause of deterioration.

It is scientifically proven in studies that exercise decreased stress-induced cocaine-seeking behavior. Exercise also altered behavioral and physiological responses to stress.

Guests who are addicted to cocaine have altered neural, behavioral and physiological responses to stress. The problem of these abnormal reactions is significantly improved by a rigorous exercise programme developed in association with our trainers and coaches. We aim to help our guests reestablish the production of natural feel-good chemicals.

Also, exercise has been shown to reduce stress hormones and elevate mood, which could assist in alleviating anxiety and negative emotions associated with withdrawal. Studies already have shown that aerobic exercise (also known as "cardio") is an effective strategy against many physical health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis, along with specific mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Research suggests that regular aerobic exercise could be a useful strategy for relapse prevention, as part of a comprehensive treatment program for recovering cocaine abusers.

With this in mind, Marbella offers the perfect solution our gym specializes in helping you get the right type of exercise to build up a body depleted by cocaine. We ensure that throughout our guest’s stay we maintain rebuild the chemical balance in the brain that will help prevent relapse and give a healthy alternative to the buzz created by cocaine use. Outdoor activity in the beautiful countryside of Southern Spain will also increase the production of brain chemicals very often associated with the dreary days in Northern Europe.Diet and the recovering cocaine addict

When a severely addicted cocaine user is in the throws of addiction self-care is not considered a priority, and that includes diet. A diet of sugar and fat-laden junk food or very little food at all characterise the typical cocaine addict. Junk food has the effect of draining the body of vitamins, fibre leading to poor general health. The guest can be over or underweight depending on the particular lifestyle. A junk food diet provides the dopamine hit, because of it’s fat and sugar-laden content that drugs do.

That is where Marbella Sober Home’s carefully diet of healthy food and exercise come in. We give our clients three balanced meals a day consisting of fresh whole food ingredients, locally sourced and grown. We aim to break the cycle of addiction, restore the brain’s natural chemical balance and establish healthy patterns of exercise and eating.

Therapeutic intervention and 12 Step Work

The Costa del Sol has a thriving Cocaine Anonymous fellowship with meetings every night of the week, and we can bus our recovering Cocaine addict clients every day to a different meeting. We only have small groups of 1 or 2 clients staying as guests at any one time. We go to meetings together as a small group and spend time meeting and getting to know fellow members. A familiarity with the fellowship can be established that leads to friendships being formed. This process is the total opposite of the traditional rehab where clients are bussed into the meeting and leave immediately after.

All our Sober Companions are recovered addicts or alcoholics and are well-established members of local groups. We will introduce our guests to members who can help them on an individual basis a process known as sponsorship.

We encourage active participation 12 step group during the whole course of the stay at The Marbella Sober Home.

I am a sober companion, I love my work, I love the travel, and I love the people I help
